news

St.Colums have progressed to Round 3 of the Junior 1 championship after a victory over Muintie Bhaire. This match was always going to be a tense affair with so much at stake and this was very evident in the first quarter. Muintir Bhaire controlled the ball during this period but were unable to put the scores on the board. THey led by two points after twenty minutes but three pointed frees by Alan O Sullivan and a fantastic effort from John Daly put St.Colums ahead by 0-4 to 0-2 at the break.  St.Colums must have been happy to lead at this stage after limited possesion. This changed in the second half as Gene McCarthy and John Daly began to dominate at midfield. Indeed both scored fantastic points in the second half. Gene gave a man of the match performance and great credit must be given to him for his leadership in the absence of Alan O Connor. Denis McSweeney, Brian O Sullivan.and Mike O Sullivan also scored beautiful points in the second half while Alan O Sullivan continued to be unerring from frees.St.Colums ran out 0-11 to 0-7 winners in the end.. They now await the Round 3 draw which will take place on Wed. the 2nd of July. Meanwhile the Junior 2 hurlers defeated Kilmeen at the weekend by 1-12 to 2-8. Gerard O Sullivan and Mike Connell in particular had very good games. Their next fixture is against St.James this friday. A reminder that the Round 2 game between Caheragh and Clann na Gael is fixed for Colums hall this weekend.
